Cara Murtagh '97 G'00 has worked in Peabody schools for more than two decades—and is now in charge of more than 6,000 students and 450 teachers in the district's 10 schools.
Since earning her undergraduate degree in education and history from Emmanuel College in 1997—followed by a graduate degree in educational leadership and administration in 2000—Cara Murtagh has risen through the ranks in the Peabody Public Schools, first as a teacher at St. John's School and now as superintendent for the district's 10 schools.
"If anyone would ask me what to do in college, I would tell them to do everything. Get as much experience as you can. Meet people and do things. Take advantage of all college has to offer."
Jumping into her Emmanuel experience, Shakirah was sure of two things: that what she had planned was going to be a “tall task,” and that she was up for the challenge.
