As move-in weekend draws closer, we at the College are meeting daily to review the latest guidance and data trends related to the COVID-19 pandemic. As announced last week, for the beginning of the semester, masks will be required in all indoor spaces on campus regardless of vaccination status. This and all other health and safety policies will be reviewed on a constant basis as we monitor infection rates within the City of Boston.
As we have reflected on the success of the Spring 2021 semester, we recognize that regular COVID-19 testing contributed to our extremely low infection rates on campus. While we have great confidence in the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine and anticipate a more than 90% compliance rate among students, faculty and staff, each day we hear of break-through cases based on the Delta variant. Because of this, for the first month of the semester, we will test all individuals on campus once per week regardless of vaccination status.
For those moving into the residence halls, we will be requiring a test immediately upon arrival on campus. This test will be administered in our Testing Center at no charge. Please note, any student who tests positive will need to isolate for 10 days. Students may also optionally submit a negative COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours of their move-in date. Additionally, the Emmanuel Testing Center will also be open Monday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. beginning Monday, August 23, for those interested in getting tested before their move-in date.
Those students commuting to campus from a home address, or an off-campus apartment will need to be tested upon first arrival on campus either for activities or class. Commuters are also able to come to campus for a pre-test in advance.
It is important to note that we have conferred with our Colleges of the Fenway (COF) colleagues regarding masking and testing protocols and our decisions align. This ensures that we have common policies and procedures across our campuses, which is particularly important for cross-registration and COF-related activities.
