M.S. in Accounting
Bridgewater State University, 2013
I took my first accounting course to appease my adviser who was getting frustrated with my inability to pick a major. It felt like I was the only student in the class who "just got it." That's when I knew I had found my major. I studied hard, graduated with honors, went on to pass all four sections of the CPA exam on the first try, and then earned my masters' degree in accountancy. My professional experience runs the gamut of accounting work: private accounting; audit; review; compilation; personal income, corporate income, payroll, non-profit, and some estate taxes; tax audit support; projection work; and running a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site. I've volunteered extensively with a youth organization, and changing careers from doing accounting to teaching accounting has allowed me to marry the two things I like the most: crunching numbers and mentoring young people. I love being on campuses, and I can't think of a career that would be more fulfilling than teaching.
Outside of academia, I enjoy hiking, rock climbing, road trips, reading, and cooking.
What I Love About Emmanuel
I love the sense of community at Emmanuel. There is a feeling of connectedness on campus despite it being located in the middle of Boston.
