When I studied abroad in Shanghai, China, in the spring 2011, I made a point to take full advantage of the experience. I toured the capital city of Beijing to visit the Forbidden City and Tianamen Square, and trekked along the Great Wall. In addition to enrolling in three courses at one of the top universities in the country, I interned at a medical supplies manufacturer and conducted market research for the company's U.S. expansion. I fell in love with Shanghai and my time there furthered my interest in developing countries. The whole experience taught me so much about China and gave me a perspective textbooks simply cannot provide.
