Reflect Emmanuel is a series of Advent meditations on Emmanuel, our God with us
December 7, 2013Matt Gagnon, Class of 2017
The Kingdom of heaven is at hand! In today's Gospel Jesus said to his disciples, "The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest." Advent is a time for us to actively await the return of Christ. To actively wait for Christ we must labor in the harvest. The abundant harvest of God gives us everything we need to live a full and happy life, however this gift is not free. If we ask God (the master of the harvest) to help us in our labor we will see we are already equipped with our own set of gifts and talents to lighten our workload and draw us nearer to God.
Far too often in today's world, Advent and Christmas can lose its focus on Christ. It should be a time to give and be with our loved ones. If we learn to give the gifts God has given us and bring together our loved ones to be laborers in the harvest with us, we not only better our lives by uniting people and accomplishing our own tasks, we ready the way for Christ to return. During the season of Advent, keep in mind that we are all laborers of the harvest. It is up to us to use our gifts and talents to make the harvest abundant and ready the way for Christ's return. May God give you peace.
