Emmanuel Celebrates Family Weekend

During the weekend of October 18th, Emmanuel students welcomed their loved ones to campus for Family Weekend-an opportunity to reconnect and to show off their home away from home.

On Friday, students and their guests had a selection of evening events, including a Spirit of Boston Dinner Cruise on the Harbor, Latin dance lessons in the Jean Yawkey Center and the Tony Award-winning musical Million Dollar Quartet at the Citi Emerson Colonial Theater.

In the presence of their families and friends, Emmanuel students took part in important College traditions on Saturday, October 19th. The Class of 2014 followed in the footsteps of every graduating class, dating back to the first in 1923, and donned their academic regalia during the Senior Cap + Gown Ceremony. Class President Jenny Konecnik, Vice President Lindsey Garvey, Secretary Shannon Croy, Treasurer Kaitlyn Murphy and senior Maureen Desmond played various roles during the ceremony. Associate Professor of Sociology Katrin Križ gave the address to the senior class.

Members of the Class of 2015 took part in the Junior Ring + Tassel ceremony, an Emmanuel tradition in which participating juniors select an alumnus, alumna or current senior to present them with their ring and/or tassel and support them in their continued success at Emmanuel. Class Officers Nicole Onofreo, Anthony Andronico, Taryn Medeiros and Nicole Capite, as well as junior Gina Tremaglio, took part in the ceremony. Dr. Rebecca Consentino Hains '98, author and associate professor at Salem State University, offered remarks to the class.

Emmanuel faculty and staff were on campus to present sessions on the first-year seminar, career planning, study abroad opportunities and various academic departments. Students and their guests also had the opportunity to participate in tours of Fenway Park, trolley tours of Boston, a spotlight on student talent and a service project with neighborhood organization Cradles to Crayons. The evening brought a brand new event, EC Laughs, which featured stand-up comedian Tommy Pope and a troupe from Boston's Improv Asylum.

Sunday offered a Family Liturgy, brunch and a "Crimes of the Commonwealth" bus and walking tour led by Assistant Professor of Sociology Dr. Janese Free before guests departed.
