Summer Reading 2013

We are pleased to announce that we will be reading the book by Dan Ariely, The (Honest) Truth about Dishonesty: How we Lie to Everyone - Especially Ourselves (New York: Harper, 2012), as our EC Reads selection this summer. This year, EC Reads (a committee comprised of faculty, staff and administrators) will offer programming each month related to the book. Dan Ariely will visit campus as our Academic Convocation Speaker on Friday, September 13th.

All students, faculty, and staff will be invited to read the book and discuss it together. Reading this book will be a campus-wide event and something we can share as a community. Each department will be holding special events related to academic integrity within their major(s) or minors.

This book ties in with our implementation of the revised Academic Integrity Policy on campus. Students will be asked to sign statements about academic honesty more frequently in class and we will be launching a new Academic Integrity Board to hear cases of possible infractions of the policy. We will also start an Academic Integrity Board Advisory Council to help educate our community about related issues and encourage a community of trust on campus. There will be more to come on what promises to be a fruitful endeavor to foster the best possible community standards.

The student purchase price for the book is $14.99. To order The (Honest) Truth about Dishonesty: How we Lie to Everyone - Especially Ourselves from the Emmanuel Bookstore, please contact the Bookstore's staff at 617-739-2232.

Enjoy the summer - and happy reading!
