Emmanuel College Earns National Recognition as College of Distinction

National Guide for Colleges Highlights Innovative Learning Opportunities at Top Schools

By demonstrating continued dedication to High-Impact Educational Practices, Emmanuel College has been named as one of the nation's Colleges of Distinction.

At Emmanuel, students are actively and enthusiastically involved in the many academic, social, and spiritual experiences available to them in the classroom, the community, and the city of Boston. Here, excellence in the liberal arts and sciences intersects with experiential-learning opportunities and scores of co-curricular activities that promote engagement and leadership, encouraging students to have a positive, significant impact on the wider world. High-impact practices such as required internships, undergraduate research, first-year student experiences, living-learning communities, diversity and inclusion initiatives, writing-intensive courses, study abroad programs, capstone projects, interdisciplinary academic programs and service-learning courses all contribute to active student learning and engagement.

"We are truly honored to name Emmanuel College as a College of Distinction for its continued commitment to student success," said Tyson Schritter, Chief Operating Officer for Colleges of Distinction. "Colleges of Distinction applauds Emmanuel College for pushing the envelope with its up-to-date curriculum, enriching the college experience with High-Impact Educational Practices, and fostering a commitment to provide its students with an education that stretches far beyond what's typically required from an academic major."

The selection process at Colleges of Distinction requires that institutions adhere to the Four Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes. This process also includes a review of each institution's first-year experience as well as its general education program, strategic plan, alumni success, satisfaction measures and more.

"Colleges of Distinction is much more than an annual ranking of colleges and universities. Our goal is to select schools that are 100 percent focused on the student experience, driven to produce well-rounded graduates who are prepared for a global society and economy," said Schritter. "Becoming a College of Distinction, like Emmanuel College, is proof that the institutions we select are fully invested in their students' success, beginning on day one and continuing through the rest of their lives."
