Institutional Research is charged with deepening and enhancing the "culture of evidence" at the College, through the facilitation of research, analysis, and discussion in support of departmental and institutional planning and decision-making.

Institutional Research (IR) at Emmanuel College provides data stewardship, conducts relevant analysis, and collaboratively strives for best practices in disseminating information while supporting the College's own educational mission and values. The office oversees a variety of responsibilities including data integrity and management, external reporting, survey administration and support, and research and analysis.

Institutional research, as a function, differs in reach and scope from one institution to another.

What We Do

What We Do

At Emmanuel, IR is responsible for a diverse array of activities:

IR supports various data collection, storage and clean-up efforts at the College. IR maintains a growing, centralized library of historical institutional data and seeks to enhance data fluency at the institution. We strive to develop and find new processes, systems, surveys and data tools to effectively provide the data and information that the College's executive staff and faculty leadership need to make timely decisions.

IR works with departments across the College to comply with requests from various external parties: the federal government and local government, our accreditation body (NECHE), numerous publishers of online and print materials (e.g. U.S. News and World Report, College Board), and other groups.

Emmanuel College routinely surveys its community to enhance its self-understanding and to inform decision-making. IR administers several national student surveys at the College including the Higher Education Research Institute's CIRP Freshmen Survey, the Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory, the National Survey of Student Engagement developed by Indiana University Bloomington, and The Outcomes Survey by GradLeaders. IR also coordinates the development, administration and analysis of an annual survey of the College's alumni. Numerous ad hoc or scheduled College wide and departmental surveys also take place, depending on need.

IR provides data, analysis, and research expertise at the department and institutional level that supports informed decision-making, measures the College's success in key areas and illustrates the fullness of the Emmanuel story to potential, current and past members of the Emmanuel community.
