Meet Jon Ahern, Assistant Director of Admissions at Emmanuel College, Boston.
Jon is an alumnus of Emmanuel College. He visits and reads applications for Connecticut (Fairfield and Litchfield Counties), New Hampshire, Central and Southern New Jersey, Texas and parts of Southeastern Massachusetts.
What is your favorite thing about Emmanuel College?
The feeling of community here. Everyone on campus is really friendly. When I was a student, I couldn't walk around campus without running into someone that I knew! Everyone-from the security guards to the professors to the student life staff-will stop you to say hello. In the midst of a city, Emmanuel truly feels like a home away from home.
What is your favorite thing to do in Boston?
I love to go running through the city. It's hard to beat a run around the Charles River on a beautiful fall day. There's no experience quite like it. The great thing about Boston is that it's small enough to get to most places using your own two feet.
What is the one piece of advice you would give prospective students about the college process?
If you are interested in a particular college or university, take a day to visit. While you can always research a school online, you'll never know what it's truly like until you see it in person.
What is the most exciting aspect of working in Admissions?
Working with a wide array of students. For many high school students, choosing a college is one of the first major choices that they will make as an adult. It's exciting to be part of that process.
