Networking is meeting new people and building relationships. Networking provides you with the opportunity to build professional alliances, share your career goals with others and gain insight into a particular career or industry sector. Networking also shows employers important qualities such as communication skills, motivation, initiative and confidence. Since nearly 80% of available opportunities are not advertised, networking helps you to uncover potential employment and internship opportunities through word-of-mouth or referral from others.
Networking successfully involves preparation and practice. For networking tips and to learn how to prepare, please read our Networking Guide.
We encourage students to attend workshops and networking events sponsored by our office, as well as other departments. For upcoming networking opportunities, please visit our event calendar or contact the Career Center to learn more.
