The Resources for Success

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) offers a variety of free services to assist students in their quest for academic excellence. All of the ARC programs focus on providing you with the individual attention that is the hallmark of an Emmanuel College education. 

The mission of the ARC is:

  • to support students in their quest for academic excellence by providing comprehensive resources and individual support, including peer tutoring, study groups, professionals specialists, and disability support services
  • to promote academic self-awareness and effective learning strategies to enhance student success
  • to support the mission of the college in developing students' roles as "critical thinkers, ethical decision makers, and engaged members of the local community and global society."

How the ARC Can Help You

Individual Peer Tutoring Sessions and Study Groups
Peer Tutors assist students in mastering course work and relevant study skills. They also facilitate study groups before major tests, and language tutors offer conversation tables. The ARC holds a Level I International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) from the College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA).

Academic Strategies
Academic Specialists work with students individually to develop effective strategies and skills necessary for college success. The ARC also offers ARC 0101: Strategies for Academic Success, a voluntary 6-week seminar for freshmen in the fall, and academic strategy workshops each semester.

Writing Assistance
Professional Writing Specialists and Writing Peer Tutors assist at any stage of the writing process in any discipline. The ARC also offers workshops focused on strengthening college writing and reading skills.

Math and Science Assistance
The Math and Science Peer Tutors and professional Math Specialists provide assistance to enhance students' understanding of math and science.

Graduate School and Continuing Studies Preparation
ARC Specialists offer guidance with graduate school and continuing study applications and timelines and assist students in understanding the basic demands of graduate school exams.

Disability Support Services
The ARC works closely with Disability Support Services to provide comprehensive academic support for students with documented disabilities.

ARC Services for Graduate Studies + Nursing
The ARC offers select academic support services to meet the needs of Emmanuel Graduate Studies + Nursing students.
