Kylia Teixeira ’19

Supporting Harvard’s Biggest Breakthroughs.

Kylia visited Emmanuel’s Career Center for the first time during her freshman year. “I was applying to be a Resident Assistant and an Admissions Ambassador, and I really wanted both. I wanted to make sure I was doing everything I could to be the best candidate.” She did get both positions—and made key connections that would change the course of her career.

By junior year, Kylia was still fully committed to her chemistry major, but knew working in a laboratory all day wasn’t the best fit for her. An influential professor asked if she’d ever considered research administration. Days later, a position for a research administration intern at Harvard University came through the Career Center. Though the request was for graduate students, Career Center advisors put Kylia’s name forward.

Since summer 2018, Kylia has worked with Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) and School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) in the area of compliance. Under her watchful eye and command of complex data tools, principal investigators stay on track with grant budgets and reporting and get support during pre- and post-award stages.

As a bonus, she gets to deep dive into some of the groundbreaking scholarship emerging from one of the world’s top research universities. “It’s amazing what they’re doing,” Kylia says. “I love reading about their upcoming research.”

On campus, she still works Resident Assistant, through which she loves creating community with residents, and she has earned the status of Gold Key Admissions Ambassador, which has helped with her confidence. “I love giving tours,” she says. “People don’t realize what a hidden gem Emmanuel is!

“It’s really rewarding. There are students who I am now interviewing to be Admissions Ambassadors who say, ‘you were my tour guide!’ I like to think I was a part of their decision to come here.”
