Multicultural Programs

The Office of Student Activities and Multicultural Programs is committed to providing services and programs that foster a safe and supportive environment for our students to explore issues of diversity and multiculturalism.

Through the advisement of the Black Student Union, H.U.E.L.L.A.S., and the program advisement of the Multicultural Club, the Office is able to develop events in collaboration with our students that meet the needs of the college community. The collaboration allows the Office to plan for thematic programs (Black History Month, Women's History Month and Hispanic Heritage Month), new initiatives and special events.

Cultural Competence Initiative

The Cultural Competence Initiative is a 40-hour comprehensive training program for undergraduate students to create understanding of issues regarding race, culture, socio-economic status, gender and individual and institutional oppression that exist in today's society. The program involves 10 four-hour sessions in which student leaders will engage in intense guided training over the course of an academic year; upon completion of the training, students will be able to communicate the concept of cultural competence through workshops and programs that they will facilitate in elementary, middle, and high schools as well as at the College. The program is offered in partnership with the Jean Yawkey Center for Community Leadership.
