2010 - 2011 Academic Year :: Fall Wyant Lecture

Last winter, Emmanuel Professor of Political Science Dr. Lenore Martin was appointed as the College's Louise Doherty Wyant Professor. Dr. Martin will serve a three-year term through the summer of 2012. Most recently, she introduced, James Carroll, the speaker for the fall installment of the Wyant Lecture.

2010 - 2011 Academic Year :: Fall Wyant Lecture

Boston Globe columnist James Carroll brought passion and insight to his discussion on the history of violence and the human condition. The award-winning author and distinguished-scholar-in-residence at Suffolk University chose the topic "War, Peace and the American Conscience." He established the context of his discussion with two years in history, 1919 and 1979, significant to both Emmanuel College and what he defined as key dates in the "current and countercurrent" that has swept the global mindset since World War I.

2010 - 2011 Academic Year :: Fall Wyant Lecture

Carroll is the author of 10 novels and six works of nonfiction. His recent book is the critically acclaimed Practicing Catholic. In early 2011, drawing on his long work toward Jewish-Christian-Muslim reconciliation, he will publish Jerusalem, Jerusalem: The Ancient City that Ignited the Modern World.

2009-2010 Academic Year :: Spring Wyant Lecture

Emmanuel College welcomed Sr. Helen Prejean, CSJ, known internationally for her tireless work against the death penalty, as the keynote speaker for the latest installment of the Wyant Lecture Series on March 30th. She discussed "Dead Man Walking - The Journey Continues" with an audience in the Janet M. Daley Library Lecture Hall.
