Acting globally.
For the past two years, Emmanuel College students have traveled to South Africa to participate in service work related to the United Nation's Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). These goals were created by world leaders with aspirations of eradicating poverty, hunger and disease in Africa and around the world within the next two decades.
Working with Prince Cedza Dlamini, grandson of former South African President Nelson Mandela, Emmanuel students assist at the Ikageng Itireleng AIDS Ministry--a social service organization dedicated to the needs of children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. They also spend time at Chris Hani Baragwaneth Hospital, the largest hospital in the world, which treats more than 2,000 patients per day--nearly half of whom are HIV positive.
