In September of 2004, Emmanuel was honored to welcome Senator Kennedy to campus as the College dedicated the Jean Yawkey Center. Below is an excerpt from President Sr. Janet Eisner's remarks:
"How grateful we are to Senator Kennedy for his support and assistance in our efforts to secure federal funds to upgrade laboratory facilities and equipment. In fact, across this country, educators recognize that there is no one in Washington who has contributed more through his relentless advocacy for federal student financial assistance and aid to education than has our own Senator Kennedy.
At Emmanuel, we appreciate Senator Kennedy for his many years of dedicated commitment to the values of higher education and social responsibility. He and members of his family have been on campus often, as Commencement speakers, Honorary Degree recipients, debate participants, panelists, and how graciously Senator Kennedy has always received Emmanuel visitors to his Washington office."
Senator Kennedy received a Doctor of Humane Letters from Emmanuel College in 1964.
The entire Emmanuel community remembers with affection and gratitude the life of Senator Edward M. Kennedy. We extend our prayerful condolences to the Kennedy family.
