A Call for Aid for the People of Haiti

January 13, 2010

We hope you will join us in prayer for the people of Haiti and those members of our own community who have been affected by the devastating earthquake that struck the country's capital city of Port-au-Prince on Tuesday, January 12th. Although we are yet to discover the full extent of the heartbreaking loss and destruction, nations around the world are already responding with aid, offering resources and personnel for rescue, food, and medical needs.

Emmanuel's Black Student Union (BSU), in partnership with the Office of Student Activities and Multicultural Programs, and Campus Ministry, is working with other Colleges of the Fenway student organizations on a plan to send relief. We hope that you will contribute what you can to assist during this time of need.

Here are a few ways you can help:

• The BSU will place brochures listing agencies accepting donations as well as cans around campus to collect money that will go to the Association of Haitian Women of Boston (www.afab-kafanm.org), which works with numerous agencies in Haiti.

• If you would like to write a check, please make it out to Emmanuel College, drop it off at Campus Ministry, and we will send one large donation from the school to the Association of Haitian Women of Boston.

• Boxes for food, medical supplies and clothing will be placed around campus, including the back of the Chapel.

• To make an immediate donation, text the word "YELE" to 501501 and press send to give $5.00 to the Yéle Haiti Foundation relief fund, started by musician Wyclef Jean. This $5.00 donation will be billed to you on your cell phone bill.

Please know that Campus Ministry is open and available to support any and all members of our community who need help during this difficult time.
