Majors, Minors & Areas of Study in Art

Emmanuel's Art Department challenges students to see, speak and listen to others through art. Our programs are fertile ground for critical thinking, creative technique and expressive communication. The study of art provides students with a new, interpretive lens from which to see and evaluate the visual world around them, developing a critical eye with which to engage their surroundings. Each program within the department strives to develop a student's potential to communicate, influence and interact creatively in society in an effective and responsible way.

Our location in Boston allows students access to a vast array of resources. Outstanding museums and galleries, such as the Museum of Fine Arts and the Institute of Contemporary Art, are only a short walk or subway ride away. With the large number of colleges around Boston, students also benefit from neighboring college and university art galleries, which, in addition to curating top quality exhibitions of art, often sponsor lectures and symposia by locally, nationally, and internationally recognized artists and art historians.
