Campus Traditions

Traditions play a very important role in every student's life at Emmanuel College. Each year, students have the opportunity to experience a new tradition, marking yet another milestone in their career as an Emmanuel student.

Check out the traditions students experience over their four years:

FIRST-YEAR STUDENT CEREMONY
During the President's Welcome at Move-In Day, new students are recognized and welcomed into the community through the presentation of their class banner and the gift of a class keychain. New students also learn about the College traditions they can look forward to throughout their Emmanuel careers.

SOPHOMORE PINNING CEREMONY
During March or April, sophomores mark their selection of a major field of study with a pinning ceremony. Faculty present each student in their department with a traditional Emmanuel pin. Students must officially declare their major to participate.

JUNIOR CLASS RING & TASSEL CEREMONY
The Junior Ring & Tassel Ceremony is an important tradition for juniors at Emmanuel as they celebrate their status as upper-class students. Juniors participating in the ceremony select an alumnus or current senior to present them with their ring and/or tassel to support them in their continued success at Emmanuel.

SENIOR CAP & GOWN CEREMONY
Dating back to the first graduating class, the Class of 1923, the Cap and Gown Ceremony has historically marked the beginning of the senior year. The ceremony provides an opportunity for seniors to don their caps and gowns and recognizes their status as seniors at Emmanuel.
