Assistant Professor of English Matthew Elliott has written an article to be published in the Spring 2009 volume of the Multi-Ethnic Literature of the United States (MELUS). His article is entitled "Sins of Omission: Hisaye Yamamoto's Vision of History."
Assistant Professor of Chemistry Christine Jaworek-Lopes has been invited to present at the American Chemical Society National Meeting titled, "Bridging the Gap: Building Collaborations with High School Chemistry Clubs." Jaworek-Lopes was selected based on the work she has done with her local section relating to outreach programs for high school students.
Assistant Dean for First Year Academic Programs and Associate Professor of History William Leonard had two publications come out in the month of April. One, entitled "People of Color, People of Faith: 200 Years of Diversity in the Archdiocese of Boston," was published in Two Centuries of Faith: The Influence of Catholicism on Boston 1808-2008. The second, "Black and Irish Relations in Nineteenth Century Boston: The Interesting Case of Lawyer Robert Morris," was published in the Historical Journal of Massachusetts.
Professor of Political Science and author of the book, The Future of Turkish Foreign Policy, Lenore Martin was a featured guest in a video interview titled, "Gaza Sours Israel-Turkey Relations" on Inside Story, a program on Aljazeera.net. The episode aired on February 16th. During the interview, Martin and fellow experts discussed the aftershock effects of the war on Gaza and the possible effect on Israel/Turkey relations. They questioned whether Israel and Turkey's association with one another has reached an unprecedented low and if there may be unknown causes behind this swift souring in their relationship.
Associate Professor of History Melanie Murphy and Cecelia Auditore '07 served as judges for the Greater Boston Regional History Day Competition at Winchester High School on March 7th. The theme of the competition was "The Individual in History." Auditore judged student web sites while Murphy judged senior papers. Over 300 students from two dozen local middle and high schools participated in a variety of categories such as web sites, exhibits, historical papers, individual and group performance and individual and group documentary.
Milda Richardson, adjunct faculty in the Art Department, has contributed two chapters to the book, Lithuanian-American Culture Heritage: The Built Environment (Lithuanian American Cultural Affairs Council, 2009). Her chapters cover cultural landscape, public spaces and memorials.
