Alumna Volunteers 1,700 Hours in Yearlong Service Initiative

EAST HAMPTON (Hartford Courant) - This summer, Emmanuel College alumna and East Hampton, Conn., native Hillary Root '08, along with Emmanuel alumni from around the world, completed a yearlong community service initiative entitled 90K... It's All About Time.
Root played a significant role in the program's success, volunteering a total of 1,700 hours. The initiative ran from July 1, 2008, to June 30, 2009, and exceeded the goal of 90,000 total volunteer hours, completing more than 137,000 hours of community service.
Root went above and beyond the call for service, making a difference through volunteer work with the Americorps. A portion of her 1,700 hours were volunteered by serving as an after school instructor and program assistant with Hands On, Hartford's Center for Youth. Continue article at courant.com »
